Discovery For families From Cindy
Balade en famille à l'étang de Hirbach - Holving

Spend some quality time with the family and give your children a taste of nature! On the programme: walks along the water's edge, in the shade of trees in the forest, on Gallo-Roman or earthenware ruins, along the greens... All you have to do is choose the one that suits you from the ideas we've come up with. Trainers, a rucksack and the essential bottle of water and off you go for some great outdoor discoveries...

Walk in nature

1/ Walking around the Hirbach pond

Ideal for a family walk along the water’s edge, through paths and shady woods. Budding hikers will have a field day, equipped with their small pair of binoculars: fish, insects and frogs live side by side, surrounded by a wide variety of flora. A whole ecosystem to observe from beautiful vantage points.

Start from the campsite car park, rue de l’étang, Holving
 6.5 km (2.5 miles) – Duration: around 2 hours
Difficulty: fairly easy with slight gradients

2/ Circuit des deux Chapelles – The two Chapels circuit

Take in the views from the top of this trail. From the chapel of Sainte-Anne, the path leads through a wood of many species before reaching the chapel of Achen. But be careful, it’s a climb! After several minutes’ uphill walk, you’ll soon be rewarded with a superb view of the Sarre valley and the village of Wittring. Great photo opportunities with the kids. We recommend scheduling this walk for the end of the day, so you can enjoy the scenery in peace on a fine summer’s evening.

Start from the port car park in Wittring. Cross the road to reach the Sainte-Anne chapel.
 – 1 km – Duration: – half an hour, at your own pace
Difficulty: moderate, with a fairly substantial positive and negative gradient

3/ Promenade du Golf – Golf Promenade

On this 11-hectare protected site, the flora and fauna invite you to take a magnificent stroll around the golf courses. With the green colours of the course and the surrounding countryside, it’s a pleasant walk for all the family. Take advantage of the coolness of the forest on part of the course and the benches to take a break in a pleasantly undulating setting punctuated by the rhythm of the golfers’ strokes. Put on your walking shoes and set off to discover this natural setting!

Classified as a Remarkable Natural Area on the French side and a UNESCO-recognised biosphere zone on the German side, its 52 hectares offer a unique environment. Take a stroll along the footpath through the remains of a small Gallo-Roman town. If you follow it, you’ll be able to spot numerous dragonflies near the ponds, swans, wild orchids and perhaps even beavers..

Take the opportunity to take part in one of the season’s key events, Vita Romana, on 12 and 13 August!

Bring your children along for a new experience that will plunge you into several worlds inspired by the work and colours of earthenware. Take a stroll along the garden paths and discover the original flowers that have breathed new life into the museum, the millstones and the shards.

The Jardin des Faïenciers is also the ideal place for a family picnic. Along the river, take advantage of this beautiful spot to admire the plants and other little creatures.
